Halstaat, Austria

A tourist center, Halstaat is one of the oldest settlements in Austria. A little medieval town on the lake Hallstattersee in the center of the Austria. Halstaat is probably the most beautiful place I saw on this trip, if not the most beautiful place I've ever seen anywhere. This place is the epitome of the post card that anyone ever got from any beautiful town in Europe. You take a boat from the train station to get there, and as you aproach the town you realize that this is the town you've seen on posters in your favorite Bavarian restaurant in San Francisco. You know, the one where after you see it, you tell yourself, "yeah, I'll never go there. It probably doesn't even exist, it's so beautiful." This was a good day.

Even the train trip from Salzburg was amazing. Just the view from the train was an eyefull. The Alps, lakes, beautiful homes.

I liked this shot so much that it's part of the CD cover for my "Spend My Time" CD.

After about 15 minutes on the boat which takes you to Halstaat at the other end of the lake, you start to see the town.

As you get closer you see more of the beautiful town.

Obviously, you can drive to Halstaat, as evidenced by the cars. I think it's a long drive around the lake.

Walking through the streets of Halstaat.

This is the view from a little bar on the water, Alps in the background.
